In his second solo exhibition, the recent work of local resident
and master papermaker, Ken Polinskie will be exhibited at
the Nicole Fiacco Gallery in Hudson, NY. The show will include
paintings and ink & gouache drawings on paper made by
the artist himself.
The work presented in this show was influenced by fables and
narratives, and as Ms. Fiacco shares, “are highly expressive,
with dreamlike compositions that are dramatic in their gesture
and color.” Some of his work is “dark” and
“comic,” while others are “deeply moving.”
The dark and comic work represented captured my attention
and prompted further interest; see for yourself.
The show will run through May 31st. Please contact the gallery
for hours and additional information on Mr. Polinskie’s
work and his papermaking skills.

The gallery space at the Old Chatham Country Store Café
and Gallery in Old Chatham, NY, is quite pleasant with its
pale yellow and white colored wainscoting walls and many large
windows. This creative setting is open and inviting, and perfect
for exhibiting the work of local and regional artists that
curator Judy Staber works so diligently to feature and promote.
During the month of May, the classical drawings and paintings
of two friends, Barbara Willner and Patricia Gravett—who
frequently paint together—will be exhibited in a show
titled “Cadence.”
Each are classically trained, and are interested in historic
painting methods and materials, which have influenced their
bodies of work and selection of subject matter; work that
is reminiscent of the Dutch and Italian Masters, and the Hudson
River School of painting. These friends and “collaborative
“painting partners” have also influenced each
other’s work when they found themselves frustrated with
the way their work was progressing. They have, at times, offered
each other constructive criticism and support in their artistic
endeavors.
Plan your visit to the Old Chatham Country Store Café
and Gallery before the show closes on May 26th. An opening
reception is planned for May 4th from 3-5 p.m.

For the past six months, artist and gallery owner Tom Myott
has been rediscovering the fertile territory of the human
form. The culmination of Myott’s exploration is unveiled
at the Tom Myott Gallery in Glens Falls, NY through May 16th.
Myott’s most well-known and collected work is his kinetically
captivating equine imagery and jazz scenes. His new body of
work, entitled the “Figure Project,” features
30 new paintings and drawings. These works express levels
of realism and abstraction. The human figure is explored as
Myott uses visual strategies, including his circular mark-making
technique, to engage the viewer. These techniques highlight
the aspects of the subject, whether it is the figure, the
figure in context with the draped material, or the symbols
used as a backdrop.
Myott’s work will also be accompanied by the work of
William McCarthy, an abstract & figurative sculptor, whose
work adds a three-dimensional component to the show.
The gallery is located in one of the many evolving spaces
at the gentrified T-shirt Factory on Lawrence Street in Glens
Falls. A Juried Pastel show will begin on May 23rd. Please
contact the gallery for hours, directions and additional information
on the featured artists.
